On a system running windows xp home, I can not shutdown,
restart, or logoff to another user. Only option is to hit
the reset button or pull the plug. HELP!!

Try this, got to start, run, type cmd in the run box, to
shutdown the computer type "shutdown -s". To restart your
computer type "shutdown -r". To logoff type "shutdown -
l".

If any of these work you can make a new text file, name it
shutdown.bat, and paste the text that you want in it and
doubleclicking on it will performe the requested action.

If this doesn't work please let us know.

Johnathan,

Thanks for the quick reply. That worked! I would still
like to know why the normal way to shutdown or logout
stopped working? Would reinstalling xp correct the
problem?

Thanks, Dan
