Hi all,
About 3 weeks ago, I started having problems with XP Pro hanging on the "Windows is shutting down" screen (and my usb mouse was still active while it "shuts down").
Due to some housekeeping issues, I reformatted and reinstalled XP Pro. New, totally clean install. System STILL hangs (has ALL service pack updates). I have also disabled my Nvidia Driver Helper, and unchecked all the USB selective power/standby boxes in the device manager.
According to the device manager, I have no hardware conflicts - I'm going nuts.
The only thing I can think of is that I installed a gigabyte of new RAM - a matched pair of OCZ PC3200 sticks... I'm running on a Biostar M7NG motherboard, with an AMD Athlon 2400+ CPU (the biostar mobo supports up to PC3200 Ram, it appears... by their specs... however, the Athlon bus is running at a lower rate I believe.. could this cause the problem?).
I also have onboard:
Hauppauge PVR-350 (with newly updated drivers)
and some USB HID devices (a Wacom Tablet/Mouse and a Shuttle Pro v2 HID)
PCI USB 2.0 and Firewire I/O card
NVIDIA FX5200
Also odd, in the device manager - it lists SIX USB Root Hubs (all with location 0 settings) - I've removed a few of these, and the XP reinstalls them upon start up.. WEIRD.
I've been browsing KB articles and websites for two days trying to find something that will work - with no luck (even resetting the pageswap file in the registry... to no avail)
Help!!!????? Please????!!!! Thanks all
