SHUTDOWN PROBLEMS

My Win XP Hm will not shut down, hibernate, or sleep.
I've tried multiple settings in BIOS, corrected the acpi
driver, latest vid drivers, removed ALL unnecessary cards
drives & external stuff (barebones). BIOS is one of most
recent. No other problems, startup just fine. Has been
doing this from the start, as best I can remember. Leave
it shutting down all night and eventually have to just
kill the power to it. And, no, it says "Windows is
shutting down"...NOT "it is now safe to turn off" and the
mouse freezes up <=that's the last thing to happen. ASUS
A7V8X, Athlon XP 2000+, 1G RAM, MSI TI4200. Previously,
had 3.06HT 533/MSI 655 MAX which would not boot up AT ALL
currently investigating that issue, don't know if they
are related problems at all. Might be HAL or product
activation issue (that's just a guess/I've changed the
configuration repeatedly...but I can log in and use
Windows fine.) I know that this is a problem for millions
of microsoft users, so any info for us all,, thanks in
advance.

First - you posted three times total, each one supposedly "adding"
information to this post. Most people are NOT going to see/read those other
ones and equate it with this one. Please, reply to your own original post
when you want to add something. Give at least 20 to 30 minutes to allow
your post to appear - especially if you are not using the MSNEWS newsgroups
directly.

Try here:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

Perhaps you can find the problem/solution there.

It does not reboot, either. And, I unchecked everything in MSCONFIG. See also my "Further Info" post, above. Still problems
