Hello,

I'm running Windows XP home sp2 on a WD Raptor hooked to a Gigabyte 7NNXP
mobo inside a Lian Li tower. I have all the latest drivers, BIOS updates
and Windows updates. The problem is that when turning off the computer from
Windows it continues to run, (Windows shuts down but power light is on and
fans are running). At this point I used to be able to turn it off by
pressing the power button [Instant off set in BIOS]. Then that stopped
working and I tried the four second delay after pressing power button
option in BIOS and that is working but I'm afraid something is not right
and continuing without isolating the problem will result in broken
computer.

i am sorry to hear about your issue. somewhere in the os there should be an
option to exit windows and turn off the pc. i saw it once. if not they might
have removed it. microsoft keeps adding/removing/changing some stuff. i saw
the option about 2 years ago on my laptop. i was using home edition on a
armada e700.

It is conceivable that this is related to video drivers. Here, certain
drivers will not pop the monitor into "sleep" mode, for example - others will.

You might check Control Panel|DISPLAY|POWER - and choose appropriate
options, and visit here...

Here is an excellent shutdown troubleshooter:
