shutdown problem ++

I recently discovered an extra user account name??? - ASP.NET Machine A . . appearing from nowhere on my login page, which has a limited account and is password protected, and also a guest account?? , though it is off.
Since, I now cannot shutdown, as it always restarts??? Worst, there appears to be no System Restores available even though I saved one a few days ago and the whole month was littered with them in the calendar.
My recycle bin appears to have no files in it also ???, though I did'nt remove anything.
I've tried checking with msconfig,exe all categories which prevent shutdown, - but to no avail.
Has anyone had similar strange problems?
Can anyone help?

asp.net is due to a windows update that you have downloaded. it can be
removed from the add/remove programs in the control panel.
