shutdown problem

Hi
I recently installed W2k after reformatting my p3.I was
doing alot of updating for drivers which was torturous.
anyway thats all good now but I have a problem shuting
down or restarting the computer. I get a box in which it
says 'End Prog. Explorer.exe' with a short timer that
allows me the option of pressing a button to end the timer
sooner. If I let it time out I get a box that says 'this
program not responding' with an option to cancel and
return to windows. If I do that I will return to a blank
desktop screen. I have been just using the computer
restart button.

When you reinstalled, did you put SP4 on it too? If not, download and
install sp4. If so, uninstall SP4 and install SP3 in its place.

Sfc /scannow is a brute force method of fixing windows problems. Run it
from the command prompt and have your win2k cd ready.


ALso, Which program isn't responding when you try to shut down?
