can anyone give me some ideas about why my system keeps shutting down. It doesn't seem to matter what program I run
I'l be doing whatever and all of the sudden without warning the system reboots. Win XP Home with AMD Athalon prossesor. Any ideas would be great, hardware, software whatever. I was thinking power supply shorting out ??????

Probably overheating or PSU......

If it starts again immediately, suspect PSU...
If it takes a while before you can start again, suspect a fan failure,
possibly on the CPU, possibly in the PSU.

Is there anything in the Event Viewer? (Control Panel, Admin Tools, Event
Viewer.... )

And when was the last time you ran a full antivirus scan with updated
signatures?

You most likely have the sasser worm that is what it does.
find a friend and get the repair program off the network from Microsoft at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=841720. Follow the directions then get
all your patches up to date ..
