Shutting down the computer by clicking Start, then
Shutdown no longer works - I get the screen advising me
that it is okay to shut down my computer. I've been told
that
1) it's a bios settings problem
2) it's a software problem
3) it's a hardware problem.

Any advice as to what steps must be taken to shut down the
computer with the software vs having to wait to be advised
that it's okay to shutdown the computer and then having to
press the power button would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Go to the MoBo site adn get the divers for W2K and update.
Use the BIOS to change the ACPI settings to automatic.
To get to the BIOS, press the delete key at first screen of posting.
