Shut down Windows XP (Pro) and not the computer itself

Hi!

My father is having trouble figuring out how to shut down
Windows and not the computer. He has gone into Control
Panel and then to Power Options, but it only turns off the
computer.

Also, I have searched on microsoft.com for the answer and
found none. And to seeing this option to post a message
in a newsgroup would be greatly beneficial!

If you do have the answer to my delimma, please email me
as soon as possible and thank you again for taking the
time in reading my question.

What does your father want to do outside Windows? There is no DOS with
XP, but there may be a work-around if he has a program to run.
