Could someone give me some tips on Windows shutting down procedures?
A while back some website/portscanner hijacked my computer. I got rid of
everything except that now when I reboot an exception takes place: "Can't
access memory module... something or other [address]" while the computer is
shutting down Windows, but the error doesn't stay on the screen long enough
for me to catch all of it. Anyway, I think it's an error left over from the
hijacking.

If there are some registry keys that control the shutting down process,
could someone tell me what/where they are in the registry? I think the
hijack program tried to lay down some processes to take place when I
rebooted or shut down that now are unable to take place since I deleted the
..dll's, .exe, and new internet connection that was created.

I never had these errors prior to the hijacking and any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Hi

Have you tried a System Restore back to a point before the problem started?
Try the following articles regarding shutdown on Jim Eshelman's web site:

http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
http://aumha.org/win5/a/tshoot.htm

Also try the following programs to check for any spyware that may be on your
system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:
