recently my computer has been shutting down at random times - (the screen
goes blank - but green light on computer still on)
this usually happens when im playing a higher spec game or watching a dvd -
the computer my stay on for 10mins, 2 hours - completely random - it seems
the more resources being used the less time it takes for the computer to
shut down
the green light stays on on the computer but the green light turns to orange
on the monitor - if i press the power button on the monitor it turns to
green but there is no picture - i then have to shut down the computer and
reboot
before this started to happen i was having and still am having trouble
starting the computer the green light comes on the computer but no picture
on the monitor, i have to switch off and knock back on a few times before
the computer boots up - and the restart button does not work

running
windows me
amd 800mhz
256mb
32mb graphics

any help much appreciated

While your gaming symptoms could be heat-related, the
power-on problem is not (unless you had JUST turning it off
so it could still be very hot). I suspect the power supply
and to take voltage measurements with a multimeter, yet that
may not reveal the problem except under full load condition
like during the gaming.

You might also do a regular maintenance of the system at
this point if you hadn't recently, checking that all fans
are working ok, clearing out dust, and examining motherboard
for capacitor failures (domed, vented, reside on top or
bottom).

thanks ill try that tonight

stayed on for over 3 hours last night without switching off
but i still have trouble starting the computer
