Shut down instead of lock on Windows XP

I just installed Windows XP on my computer to evaluate it for our users (especially those on laptops). I upgraded a desktop machine from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional. Now, when I lock the computer with programs open using ctrl-alt-del, it re-opens fine after lunch. The programs are still running. When I do this as I leave for home, the next morning all programs are closed and windows logs in again as if the computer were never locked. This appears to be some sort of time-out but I'd like to have the computer remain locked instead of log out. I'd like to leave certain programs running to finish tasks that I don't want to have to wait for. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Interesting! I'd like to know how the make it do the thing that you don't
like, sometimes. :-) Can't wait to see the responses....!

This is one of those rare cases when I figured out the problem. The program causing the problem is by United Devices (a volunteer effort to search for a cancer cure). Each time the program tried to report results to the UD server, the machine crashed (blue screen). I had to totally remove the program (in some places delete files by hand) and re-install it from scratch. It seems to be working OK now. I'll know for sure the next time the agent tries to report results to the UD server. Sorry Doug, this wasn't the new "feature" you had hoped for <grin>
