I bought some hour ago a licenze of ShowShifter. Seems the only good
application to use with a Radeon vivo card for digital vcr features
(MMC does'nt work). with a PIV 3.0 precott i capture in full pall with
a divx codec (vbr q3). the quality seems very good. also it's cheap
less than 50€ vat included.
what do you about this software?

I found it to have good picture quality but also to have a horribly
clunky interface. I could also never get the settings to save and had
to set it up every time I booted it; I have the feeling this was
because I was using a VIVO card (as you intend to) and because I could
not set any stations it would not finish the setup wizard properly.
YMMV.

Are you using an OEM card? This may well be why the MMC TV/Video In
app will not work; that's why I was looking at different ones. I was
using a Sapphire 9600 Pro VIVO and eventually got it to play ball
(most of the time) with MMC by flashing the BIOS so it identified
itself as an ATI card.

If, as I think may be the case, you're receiving PAL or SECAM
broadcasts, the choice for VCR apps is somewhat limited, since most
producers don't seem to be too bothered about optimising their
products for non-NTSC use. That may be why Showshifter produces a
good picture despite its other limitations: AIR the company is based
in Edinburgh.

The one I found to produce the best results was Intervideo's WinDVR.
Expensive, but you can pick up licences cheap on ebay; however, since
vendors are simply selling a licence for software you download
yourself, it's an area that's very open to ripoffs - if you do this,
check your vendor's feedback carefully and don't buy if they're not
100%. Fortunately, you're not usually looking at much money, though.

hi

also I test windvr but produce only mpg files without vbr features. for
showshifter and setup wizard i had the same problem. this because you
haven't pich a channel. in setup wizard in "tune channel" step click on
+. you got video composite and s-video channel. select and continue.
next time you start the SS the wizard don't repeat. eheheh
for the interface I like it but does'nt important. this application
record in divx with great quality. for me is the most important
features. i use mainconcept mpeg to produce mpg files to authoring for
dvd.
ciao
