showing tasks in calendar

When I create a task with a due date and select a
reminder, shouldn't that reminder show as a calendar item?
If so, I cannot see the reminder in my calendar.
 
No. Tasks and Calendar items are separate in Outlook. If you have created
a task and then want to create a calendar item from it (or vice versa),
right-click and drag the item to the other folder and choose your preferred
copy/move action from the popup menu.
