showing photos on the web

Hi
Is there anyone out there with experience of showing photos on there own web page.
I am looking to make a web site to mainly show photos. Ideally the photos would be displayed at a decent size and/ or be able to magnify the displayed photo.
I do not mind paying as long as the quality fits the price.

I already use Picasa which I find very good.
But what I am now looking for is to write a story of our travels and including many photos.
I know that you can add comments ect. on Picasa but I thought that having our own web page would give us more possibilities in designing the page.
I have found many possibilities where you can choose from many different templates.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of making your own web page.
