In previous versions of Windows the explorer always showed
the amount of free diskspace at the bottom. When selecting
a number of files it would show you how much toe combined
size of these files was.
These counters have disappeared in XP, is there way to get
them back?
Thanks!

Do you have the Status bar enabled? Click View/Status Bar.

My status bar shows combined total size of all files in the folder
being viewed but NOT including sub folders. There is no mention of
free disk space.

Hmm. Here, when I click any folder the status bar shows "xx objects (Disk
Free Space xxGB)". Where the objects are the number of folders in that tree
(excluding sub-folders of these folders) It never shows folder size. If I
select a single file, it will show "Type: Modified<date> <time> <size>"
however, if I select multiple files, it will simply show "<number>
<objects>".

IIRC, this has always been the default for the Windows Explorer status bar
in XP.

Windows 98 was different in that it had a 2 section status bar that showed
objects selected as well as the size.

I'm not sure if this can be changed, or not, but someone here may jump in
with a tweak. :)

It will show if you are using Show Common Tasks in Folders.

Ah - I see it now - on left side of windows under "Details" (if
"details" is expanded) but only if the window is showing the root
directory and only if there is no file or folder selected!

To get back to OP's first post, it is not there all the time. Maybe
there is some add on or plug in that would give it?

DRIES - I usually use "Power Desk" instead of Windows Explorer.

It shows total size and free space of root directory no matter what
folder is being viewed as well as other info.

It has dual pane capability and is highly configurable

Read about it here:-

The FREE "trial" version has no nags, no spyware, NO TIME LIMIT. Get
it here:-

Needs a name and email address but you can use throw away info to get
it.

If you followed the thread and use any version of Windows, then you would
clearly know what the Status Bar is and what I mean. Those stats are
clearly shown in the Status Bar.

If YOU followed the thread you would know that, of course, I know what
the status bar is and that the OPs request for the display of the
"free diskspace at the bottom" is nor showing up in the status bar of
my XP SP1 system and apparently not in his either!

Do you have a modification or add on that makes free disk space appear
in the status bar??
