Show check box missing

I'm trying to edit a query in design view to show a certain field but for this particular field there is no "Show check box", the cell in the Show row where the Show check box should appear is just a blank space, unlike all the other fields in the query which have a check box, whether they are checked or not. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to overcome this problem. Thank you.

Is the window tall enough to show the entire grid?

Thank you sir, for your prompt reply. Since my original
post, I've discovered that the "Show check box" for the
field disappears when one utilizes the "Sort box" for that
same field and the field subsequently appears in the query
result. I'm guessing that there is some non-standard code
that has been included so that when a field is used as the
basis for a sort, that field cannot then be hidden from
the query result. HTH?

Sincerely,
