Should I upgrade to Outlook 2007?

  • Thread starter Thread starter JAF
  • Start date Start date
Outlook 2007 is still in beta and not available for upgrade. No version of
Outlook comes in an upgrade edition. As to whether you should or not, it
depends on your needs and whether the 2007 version offers compelling
features that YOU want.

Thanks for such a quick response.

Since I have OL 2002, is there any reason to go to OL 2003, or should
I just wait for the 2007 version?

I just started with Outlook, and like it a lot. The version I have
seems to have most of what I need. I am a one person business, so I
need contact management, mail merge, email, etc., but not much else at
the present time.

Thanks again for the post.

Should I upgrade to Outlook 2007?

Or should I just go to 2003?
I'd stay with what you have.

I have 97 and am happy with it.

I've tried upgrading and have had troubles
every step of the way.

I have one computer with 97 and it works
flawlessly. The others with later versions
have various problems including XP which for
all intents and purposes refuses to sync to the
Ipaq.

Outlook 2003 is hugely better than any previous version of Outlook.

Reportely, because 2003 was a huge major revision, Outlook in Office
2007 will be almost unchanged. It's the only Office module that is not
undergoing major changes with a totally new user interface.

Note that Office 2007 "Home Edition" (was called the "Student &
Teachers" Edition in 2003) will not include Outlook at all, which I view
as a major mistake.

That's not quite accurate. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access -- not all Office programs but Outlook -- are getting a complete overhaul with the new ribbon UI. Outlook goes halfway, with the new UI on individual items, but not the main window.

Some Outlook features *are* getting a complete overhaul, particularly tasks and calendars, and there are also major changes in IMAP email support and some other areas.

Outlook 2007 has had scads of changes and everything except the main Outlook
window will use the ribbon. I don't know where you heard that Outlook is
unchanged but that information is incorrect. In fact, the Office team spent
the most time on updates to Outlook out of all the Office programs.

If you are currently satisfied with 2002, I'd stay with it until 2007 is
released early next year. One thing you want to look at though is how
best to upgrade cost-wise. Pricing for 2007 is already available, so you
should be able to figure out what's best for you.
