Hi,

Should I remove the "." zone from my DNS server? If I do
will it couse problems?

Mostly this is done if you want to configure a Forwarder in your DNS server,
for efficient Internet name resolution, since if the Root zone exists, the
Forwarding option is grayed out.

As Simon mentions, if you don't care for Internet resolution, then no need
to delete it, otherwise, yes.

Thanks for the below,

I use a proxy server to connect to the internet, and I
have selected the "bypass proxy server for local
addresses" in my IE settings - If I add the DNS server on
my DMZ, to my forwarder in ny DNS server will this setting
bypass the proxy for all internet browsing??

So you have a DNS server in the DMZ and the new DNS server is on the
internal network, is that right? In this case, you want to configure clients
to use the internal DNS server for name resolution and have the internal
server forward all unresolved queries to the DNS server on the DMZ.

The 'bypass proxy server' setting will have no effect on your browsing in
this case as the IP of the internal server will be a local address. Once the
client sends a request to the internal DNS server it just sits back and
waits for a reply. When the reply comes back for an external web page the
destination IP will not be a local address so the client should then go to
the proxy server.
