Should i let games choose Anti-alaising and Ansotripic filtering ?

For the best pitcure and speed.

Ive got a 9600 Pro and Xp 2400 cpu.

Just like your thoughts i'am doing that now and playing some games to
see if i realy notice any difference.

Thanks.

I think it's wise to check the games read.me, as the makers normally
recommend certain settings for various graphic cards.
For example, BF Vietnam has a few issues with ATI 9800 cards and recommend
setting the Anti-aliasing and Ansotripic filtering to application
preference.

My inclination is to use the video drivers to set AA and AF. They are
designed for your hardware and should do the job more efficiently.

That doesn't necessarily mean they will work with all games.

AF and AA settings in the game tick the same box, as it were.

The advantage of setting it to application preference and then setting it in
the game is for games such as Splinter Cell that have issues with lighting
when AA is turned on. The disadvantage is that games that don't have the
option, but work nicely with them have to go without.

It's shame ATI doesn't allow you to set the preferences for individual
games - that would be the ideal setup.

Well... the ideal setup would be for AA and AF to compatible in all games
and for the games to allow you to choose suitable options. This is the case
for most games I've played, but I know other games don't have the options
when they work.

Only a few games have in-game settings for that kind of functions..

And yet other games don't run anti aliasing very good...

So a program that you can use to set preferences by game would be the
most perfect... like Rage3d offers...

Older games don't have settings for FSAA and anistropic. I use RadLinker
(http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/) to control each game's video
driver properties. :)

Get Radlinker as that is exactly what it does. Or you can just use the
Omega drivers as Radlinker is built into the install of the Omega
drivers. It's best to leave the desktop control panel at it's default
and then use Radlinker to set AA and AF in the games you want/can use
it in. Radlinker has many more settings besides AA and AF too.

For performance... I simply use AA only. and at X2

Its easily smoother - even in 1600x1200 and minimal hit to the frame
rate.
