Should I leave m Printer turned or shut it off when not useing it..

If it is a laser, leave it on when the computer is on. It takes lasers a
few moments for the drum to reach operating temperature. And, when left
on and not used, it will enter stand-by mode so that little power is
consumed.

If it is an ink-jet, the answer is a bit more complicated. Most recent
models also enter stand-by when not used. Some do not. However, power
consumption is so low that it scarcely matters. The other issue is the
possibility of the ink being subject to drying if the nozzles are
uncapped when the printer is on. That does not happen with recent models,
those that enter stand-by.

Dot-matrix impact printers and line printers can be left on or off. It
scarcely matters.

Did you check the printer's manuals whether printed or on-line? There
might be something there that will help you make up your mind.

With modern printers, it usually comes down to convenience. Nothing beats
a little experimentation.

Good luck.

In most cases my printer is turned on when i am about to use it. However, if
i am unsure whether i am going to print further copies or not the printer
stay switched on. If i am simply going to print a few copies and nothing
more then the printer is turned off as soon as i've finished. Bit like the
PC really, as soon as i've finished doing what i need to do the PC is
hibernated until the next time it's needed.

Incidentally i use an ink jet printer, but i do agree that if you are using
a laser printer it is better left on because of the initial warm up time
required.
