Should I fix or recycle this Monitor?

I have a five year old LG Studioworks 995E that started acting up ( shutting
off by itself and going dark for a few minutes at
a time ) and now finally the upper half of the screen is gone. Wondering if
it's worth fixing or just throw it in the Recycle dumpster?

Considering the cost of the labour, and the parts, I would retire the
monitor. The tube must also have a lot of ware on it. Also, the parts will
be very scarce, and there is no service information available from the
manufacture.

The repair sounds like something has failed; either a capacitor, or a
transformer, etc. You're looking at a minimum of $90 when you take it to a
facility. A new CRT 17" can be had for about $120 and up. I picked up a
Viewsonic 17" from Newegg for $112 last year. Consider how you should put
it to rest environmentally because of all the lead in it rather than "if".
