Should I enable File and Folder Compression during format?

Hi Gang,

Something new to me. I'm in the process of installing a new secondary
hard drive. WinXP diskmgmt.msc offers the option of "Enable file and
Folder Compression" during the format.

What would I gain by selecting this option? To me, backup programs
etc. provide a compression option anyway.

Thanks, Gary

You only need file and folder compression if you are running desperately low
on disk space, which you are not. I suggest you leave the option disabled.
As you rightly point out, backup and imaging software offer compression
anyway.

Thanks for your quick response.

Disk space is no problem (250gig - gloat :). I will leave the option
disabled.
