Shotdown screen

After much searching to try and get help from microsoft
and beinkg told my uk sofware PIN number (or whatever)
isnt valid in the uK i have found this site, so i hope u
can help me as this problem has stummpred many of my
friends ;)

nothing big realy, but wen i press Start, Turn Off
Computer and that option screen comes up (saying turn
off, restart, etc...) the rest of the background DOESNT
go black and white - any ideas???????

James, when I press start, I get my XP window with stuff in it & the
"Log Off" & "Turn Off Computer" icon/commands are at the bottom of
that window. If I press "Turn off Computer", I get the little Turn
Off Computer window with - standby, turn off, restart - being the
choices there. At no time does anything go black & white. So I don't
know what you are talking about. Perhaps you meant to say the
background DOES go b&w ?
