I've tried to place shortcuts on my desktop for my CD-RW/DVD player, and get the message-the shortcut cannot find the taret, can anyone help. Thanks, Michael

Have you re-lettered any your drives using "Diskpart" or the
equivalent GUI program, I wonder? I've never had the slightest problem
with drive shortcuts to Desktop until I used the former a few days ago -
now I get problems that I guess are similar to yours, with the message
"The item 'A:\' (or whatever) that this shortcut refers to has been
changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly".
And, *yes* I *have re-created the shortcut since changing the drive
letters. Any solution would be appreciated.

I've this problem (see my earlier post in this thread.). Hotfix
821557 isn't among those (17) I've listed as having downloaded. Is it
possible that 821557 was a hotfix subsequently incorporated in SP1? I
ask because my Windows XP includes SP1..

It's not incorporated in SP1. You may check the version of Shell32.dll if you already have this patch instaleld.
