shortcuts to files in folders

Many of my files are related to different folders. Is there a way
(shortcut?)for me to access a particular file from more than one
folder ? The problem with putting copies in more than one folder is
that if I work on a document, the changes are included in only one of
the folders, so I risk ending up with many versions of the same file.

I seem to recall that in Wordperfect one could put shortcuts in
folders. The shortcuts brought you to a single copy of the document.

I can't find the way to do that with Word.

If you have WIndows 2000 or above, the documents list in your Start menu is a
list of shortcuts to the documents you worked on recently.

Right-click on the filename in any Explorer window (including Word's File
Open dialog) and choose Create Shortcut. Then drag the shortcut to another
folder, or cut and paste it.

Thank you, Genine, for your response.

My concern is about documents I have not been working on recently and
can be retrieved only from folders in "My documents". What I am
looking for really is a way to do a multiple-listing of a single
document whereby there is only one copy of that document located in a
particular folder, but with a link to it in a number of other folders.

Thank you. By the way,I realized after posting my query that it was
an OS issue, not a word processing one! Unfortunately, you can't
withdraw a post!
