How can I place a shortcut to either of these on the desktop? Neither
seem to have an option to create a shortcut on the desktop when I right
click on them, nor can I drag them to the desktop. Pretty sure I did
this once before but for the life of me I can't recall how. Jeff..

Right click the desktop and select Properties to bring up the Display
control Panel. On the Desktop page, click Customize Desktop. In the list
of available items to display on the desktop, place a check by Network
Places. OK your way back to the desktop.

In addition to Sharon's advice, you can create a shortcut anywhere on the
computer to My Network Places. Use the command line

shell:nethood

for the shortcut. Oddly enough, it comes up with an IE icon, but you can
change that.

Thanks Sharon, works perfectly for My Network Places. So many "hidden"
tricks and tips! As I recall I also had "Workgroup" on the desktop at
one time. You wouldn't by any chance know how to do that would you? Jeff...

You're welcome.

Select the workgroup in Network Places. Right click and select "Create
Shortcut." A screen will appear saying it can't do that but it will also offer
to place a shortcut on the desktop.
