I am trying to make a shortcut to the invatation page so that when the people in my company need help i don't need to walk them through how to get there step by step now i know it needs to be done so that it points to there local machine but i can not figure Please HELP ME. Oh yea once this is figured out i am puting it up on my companies internal website so we can use it company wide. Thanks for all the help I can get

Have you considered having them call you, then using "shadow" or unsolicited Remote Assistance to remote control their console? In a Active Directory domain environment you can "shadow" (remote control) XP Pro clients w/o them having to send you an invitation

In a domain or trusted domain environment you can use the Remote Assistance "Offer" functionality.
Note, however, the Novice still has to give you, the Expert, permission to both view and control
their desktop. Go to "Start -> Help and Support" and search on "offer remote assistance" for more
information and/or look at these KB articles for help with that...

If your in a workgroup environment, ie. *NOT* in a domain or trusted domain environment, then look
at this page for help...

After rereading your post, its possible you mean a short cut on the Novice desktop so they can
initiate the Remote Assistance sequence easily? If so...

Al - that's a URL to bring up the dialog within help-and-support that allows
the EXPERT to connect to the Novice's machine.

(and it may be ServicePack specific--beware.)

(The novice doesn't have to do anything except communicate the need for
support--phone or email, whatever.)

Find the page you want in Help & Support, and add it to Favorites in H&S.

See if that allows you to see the URL, and use that URL--perhaps by
retyping.

I can't immediately try this on an SP1 machine, I'm afraid, but that's the
approach I'd take to finding this.

OK...thanks...

As you can see, I asked about RA on 1/22/04.

I tried saving the URL as a favorite. Doesn't work properly.

I think its easier to use a Trojan :) to access the desktop of particular users [for help and support] than go through RA. Most of my friends have different computers and all of them have different H&S screens. I had to call and bark at Compaq for making their online help in H&S not jive with actual online help screens

I tried to follow my own advice afterwards, and decided that it didn't work
properly. I was able to see the URLs only because of a bug in a beta I was
running, I suspect. Since it was a beta, I couldn't just publish the
URL's--they probably wouldn't work for the real world.

The customized H&S for the individual vendors is both a strength and a
weakness--and you've pinpointed the weakness--it's hard to give clear advice
about how to reach a feature --esp if even the vendor can't make their own
product consistent.

Actually, the easiest to use and most consistent interface to RA is via MSN
Messenger.

This string is working fine for me at this moment, on XP Pro:

hcp://CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote%20Assistance/Escalation/Unsolicited/Unsolicitedrcui.htm

Not sure where you got the extra bit at the beginning.

Bill, I changed the shortcuts path under the shortcut properties, and it works like a charm! Thanks
The method that I used to create the shortcut with the extraneous verbage was a result of going to Help & Support, then to the Pick a Tesk submenu, then a new screen appears, on the left hand side of the screen under the heading of "Tools
are the following, My computer Info; System Restore; Remote Assistance; Offer Remote Assistance. I dragged and dropped Offer Remote Assistance onto the desktop. My guess is that because the little icon of "offer remote assistance" has a question mark ? surrounded by a box must mean to the system that it is a "question" type of a shortcut, which results i
--- "hcp://services/centers/support?topic=" being inserted in front of your recommended shortcut. I edited mine to match yours and it works now. Perhaps a different route to the link would have resulted in the proper shortcut creation.

I've got to say I'm not sure where I got my original string. I think what
happened was that someone posted it here--saying what does this do? I'm not
sure how he found it, but it is useful!

There are other similar HCP links, as I recall, but you need to take some
care with them--I'm 99% sure that they aren't intended to be public
information, and are not guaranteed to remain the same as products change.

That said, this link still works fine on XP SP2 RC1, so it hasn't changed
since XP was released.
