I can create a shortcut to a folder, but not directly to an item. Can
anyone clue me in on how this is done?

Thanks, Cindy. That works, but.... (there's always a "but" isn't there?)

The problem is that I'm looking for a way to get users to stop mass-mailing
attachments to all Subscribers, and begin using our Public Folders and email
links. (This reached a head when a user emailed a 30mb document to over 500
users. eeP!)

I'd prefer to stick with what's available within Outlook. Is there no way
to easily create these links? Does Outlook 2003 make this stuff any
easier?

Try using Outlook Linker available from PCworld downloads at
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,22906,00.asp. It
creates a URL instead of an icon.
