shortcut problem

After the computer has been running for a while, a number
of shortcuts on the desktop no longer function, e.g.
Google, NY Times,Yahoo,while others do, e.g. AOL,
Internet Explorer. If I reboot, they will operate again --
temporarily. Please advise. Thanks.
 
Thanks. Tried it but it didn't work. All icons for
shortcuts work fine for an hour or less, then most don't
work -- or only work partially. For example, this site
opens to the page listing the inquiries normally, but
after a while opens only to the blank page; ny times
opens normally, later on ny times pop up ads appear, if
anything. Most shortcuts do nothing at all after a while,
although you can hear a little noise in the computer.
Could it be a memory issue or is there something blocking
this operation after use? Thanks again. JBS
