IE6, XP Pro

At work, in my profile, about 2months ago, suddenlt control-enter in the
address bar (to automatically add www and .com) quit working. Funny thing
is, when I log into a different profile on that computer it works fine. I
try to keep my computer(s) squeeky clean. Haven't had a virus in as long as
I can remember and am very cautious and educated about spyware. I also run
adaware and spybot every week or so just to be sure but rarely find anything
other than cookies.

I suspect that some sort of spyware was in there at one point and changed
some settings. Probably the type of spyware that redirects mistyped URL's
or something. And once it was removed those settings never got restored
properly. At least, that's my theory.

I've done web searched and turned up no useful results, nothing relating to
my problem. I can live with it but it's really annoying because I use 4
different computers and I'm so used to using control-enter that I find
myself cursing the computer when I am using the affected one.

Any ideas on how to correct this? Basically, I'll type google then hit
control-enter and it will sart trying to load "google" and fail with an
error instead of automatically adding the www. and the .com then trying to
open www.google.com .

Thanks!

Hi there R,

First of all, check if auto complete is enabled.
Open IE-> Tools-> Internet Options-> Content tab and click Auto Complete.

Furthermore you may try also these steps:

Ctrl + Enter no longer adds www and .com

Using Regedit, browse to the following registry key and make sure the noted
setting is correct:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoCo
mplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

You will also see the following values:

"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"
