Superficial.

Out-of-date.

Inaccurate. e.g. "...Avast surpasses AVG by scanning both Outlook
and standard Internet (POP3/SMTP) mail..."

But if it encouraged anyone without any AV software to install one
of cited products it isn't entirely worthless.

Oops, sorry but your comment is inaccurate.
AVG7free does indeed scan both Outlook and pop3/smtp mail!
It does so differently than Avast, but they both get the job done.
I believe the Avast scanning method is better and more trouble free.
AVG requires a proxy server to scan email.
The Avast method is "lower level".

I note in passing that neither of them scan hotmail nor gmail, not even
gmail's new SSL pop3/smtp accessed via a client such as Outlook Express.
Also, neither of them scan NNTP news either. I suppose they're port
oriented, and look only at the pop3=110 and smtp=25 ports. A big improvement
would be if user could input any desired port(s) to be scanned.

That wasn't my comment, I was quoting from the article.
