Shopping carts with FrontPage

Hi,

Most carts are either hosted by a company or you purchase and install the software on your server. The is the most cost effective
method as it incurs a single cost whereas the other is a monthly charge.

http://www.candypress.com is a very reasonably priced, full feature cart.

The simplest way is to use the Paypal FrontPage Addin.

Otherwise:

1) You'll need a third party e-commerce sofware program.
2) You'll need to purchase and have installed on the server a secure
certificate for SSL transactions.
3) You'll need to set up a merchants account with your bank for credit card
payments.
4) You'll need a proper way to process the credit card transactions. Most
banks will not allow you to store the information on your web or in a
database.

There is some mis-information here.

1. The PayPal FrontPage Addin is not a "true" shopping cart. It is missing a great deal of functionality that is present in a true
shopping cart.

2. Most third party e-commerce packages allow you to use shared SSL provided by your existing ISP / WPP. There is no need to
purchase a SSL certificate.

3. There are numerous payment methods that do not require a merchant account PayPal Website Payments Pro, 2Checkout.com, Google
Checkout, are just three such payment options. There are many more.

4. Most carts today either do not store the card or use very strong encryption to do so. There is a misconception that banks do not
allow for websites to store this information. MasterCard / Visa have rules that apply to very large institutions about card security
when it is stored in their databases.

I'm looking for a type of shopping cart that can be used with no payment
required at all.
Just a cart where product and qty can be gathered and sent to me through an
email.

have a look at www.hotscripts.com and other places like that.
the common name for what you're talking about is "catalog" rather than
"shopping cart".
