Appreciate a "linky" for the specs required to support a new AGP video card.
I know it requires DirectX9?? not sure what else. Is 256mb enough or
should 512 mb be the minimum. I am running RC2 now and want to purchase one
with acceptable drivers etc. TIA

Unless you absolutely need one now - recommend you wait.
But yes - 512 rather than 256 and DirectX 10 rather than 9 but for
DirectX you should wait - till A. it works and B. the price will be 30%
less.

From what I've read lately with Vista the most important spec is RAM.
So 512MB is obviously better.

Vista requires DX9, but if you're a gamer you'll eventually want DX10,
which only Vista supports. Right now DX10 cards are quite pricey. I'd
also guess that AGP options for DX10 cards might be limited.

To get Aero and the other vista stuff working, 128mb is enough graphics
memory. I have an old nvidia (leadtek) 6600GT AGP 128mb card, and
everything is working fine.
