Shoddy Network Connection

I know this isn't a hardware issue completely, but i thought i would get some good input here.

ok,
I've got 4 xp boxes running off a router that is plugged into a dsl gateway, all working great. I run 2 print servers and both work fine. however, i installed a new dell box and it worked good at first, then the connection went sour. now, most websites time out, pings to the gateway timeout 50-75%. I've run Adaware, SpyBot, AVG, and Tried the winsock fix and still its not working. If anyone could help I would be extremely happy.

Gateway is DHCP'ing. Wireless disabled. Hardwired. Through the 66 block to the router. I can print sometimes, and when it does print it usually takes longer than 20 minutes from the time i sent it.

ok, now it gets weirder. so i took my 2000 box from home and plugged it into the network and it works fine. I take the xp box that doesn't work home, plug it into my cable modem and it works, no problem. I am very confused. I don't know if xp home, which is what this box has, includes an event log.
