There are some ways to give a line the appearance of brightness, but
strangely enough, don't use a line.
Try this:
Make a rectangle that is very wide, but very narrow from top to bottom. Use
a two color gradient fill from a light version of blue to a dark on top and
bottom. Remove the outline for the rectangle (set to 'no line'). This
creates a little 3-D depth to the line.
Then add a new rectangle. Use the two color gradient, but now you want to
use a center color of yellow blending out to a transparent white. Again
remove the outline. Over lap it over top the previous rectangle you
created. Now send this new rectangle behind the other line.
Adjust the sizes of the rectangle to make the appearance you want. When
set, group the two objects together so they can be manipulated. I've found
these look best on a black or dark background.
