Shift Key Seems Locked

I have a user that uses the keyboard for 2 languages, he complains that
sometimes after pressing Alt and Shift then releasing both keys the computer
behaves as if the shift key was held down

That seems like a sticky key behaviour.. but the sticky key setting seems
off.

I thought that there must be some hardware problem but a reboot does help

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Samuel

When the problem occurs, does the problem appear for all running
applications? If so, it could be a bad keyboard.

It is for all running programs

I can't imagine what can be wrong with the keyboard to behave like that

A keyboard usually has its own microprocessor to decode keystrokes and
to handle debouncing, and can fail like any other device can. I once
had a somewhat similar problem, and it turned out to be a problem with
all the keyboards of that design: the PC vendor had to replace it with
a keyboard of a different design.

Thank you for that,
Samuel

Hi Samuel,

I seem to be experiencing a similar problem of sudden Shift Key locedk
behavior. (My Sticky keys is disabled.) Did replacing the keyboard resolve
this for you?

I have a laptop, and sometimes I work off of a docking station. I have
replaced my laptop keyboard and hard drive, but the issue started happening
again. I am about to try replacing the docking station keyboard to see if
this fixes it, but I thought I would check to see if you have any other
suggestions. Thanks.

Cheers,
AC

I did replace the laptop's keyboard but I still have this problem so I
reinstalled the OS and I am waiting to hear

Did you experience this problem in both the Laptop's keyboard and the
docking station's?

Regards,
Samuel

Hi Samuel,

Before I replaced the keyboard/hard drive, I experienced it on both the
laptop and the docking station keyboard. This is what led Dell to suggest
that I replace the laptop keyboard, but that didn't work, so I eventually
also replaced the entire hard drive. Everything seemed to be ok the past few
months, but it recently started happening again. So far, it's only happened
on the docking station, but I have been working on the docking station more
often lately. My colleague is experiencing the same thing too, and he says he
only sees it when he is docked.

Isn't it annoying?

Cheers,
Amanda

Don't you think it my be the system board?
