The shift key activates caps lock and then acts like tab,
jumping from menu to menu. How do I turn it off, or
return it to normal settings?

To return control of caps lock to the Caps Lock key: Control Panel>
Regional and Language Options> Languages> Text Services> Details> Settings>
Key Settings. Move the radio dot from "Press the Shift key" to "Press the
Caps Lock key."

Holy cow! How do you know these things? (I'm not the original poster,
just mighty impressed.)

Wish it was as impressive as it looks, Maureen :) I looked this up during
the past month for someone who wanted to go the other way: setting Shift as
the trigger key for CAPS LOCK. In spite of the heavy doses of cold medicine
(hate summer colds!), the information was still fresh in my memory.
