Hi folks,

You may or may not be aware, but I now have a new set-up.

320gig sata hhd in my case, and I have my old 250gig hdd IDE running out of an external box.

I want to move games and software and a lot music off my external onto my sata.

Will I have issue's trying to run games/software after they are moved?
What is the best way to do this?

I know the music won't be difficult, it's just I've about 30gig of it!

Answers on a post card, to the usual address.

Thanks in advance.

If you are using software to move large amounts of stuff its always a good idea to verify the data once its been moved . You can do this with Acronis , I think , and maybe with Partition Magic . :thumb:

You can't 'move' software .. you will need to reinstall it.

Data can be moved, but you may need to take control of the file.

Copy the music over, reinstall the games and then copy over save games. :)

As Mucks & V_R said, you can only move data, such as your music.

Any software program, be it a game or a business, whatever, application, needs installing within the current operating system to work.

When installing a game, files are copied to the registry and usually to a dedicated folder somewhere within the operating system.

You can't just copy them over.

Reinstall the games.

Then look for your saved games on the external drive, copy and paste them over.

To do that with games, you may have to open the game, play it a bit and make a save before the saved games folder is created.

And the saved games folder does actually sometimes take a bit of looking for, but it's always there, somewhere.

Good luck :)

Acronis and Partition Magic are disc partition tools , with them you can also copy or clone partitions and complete drives very easily . Also with Acronis you can verify the data moved , same as you can do when burning a CD/DVD . This just makes sure that the data is ok after the move . Sorry didn't mean to baffle you with info . I've just transfered loads of stuff from one pc to another using the one folder at a time method 60GB and it didn't take such a long time . I used "Copy" rather than "Move" for the transfer so that I could check out the stuff moved before deleting the old folders just to make sure it was ok though .Put some music on and chill while its going on.
