I just discovered many errors in event viewer - system with :
Boot -start or System -start Driver(s) failed to load - shieldm.
Can't seem to find anything on this driver on google. Any help with the
right direction to look. Thanks Ron

I'm not sure as you haven't provided much information, have you ever run any
of these:
Spy Sweeper
NetConceal Anonymity Shield
Security Shield
AOL Active virus shield
XSpy Shield

I'm just guessing here and have no idea if any of these programs use a
shieldm.sys driver. An examination of the registry would be in order. If the
answer is yes, then it would likely be a registry entry that didn't get
removed when the program was removed.

Hi Ron,

Is it maybe a part of McAfee ???

On my PC at my work is McAfee and i thought that i see it there.

Thanks for coming back guys , no to Bob and I'm leaning towards my firewall
which is Mcafee. Every boot-up when my programs are loading and their icons
appear in the system tray a balloon pops up and says no firewall is installed
(something like that) and then balloon disapears in about 20 seconds and i
guess the firewall activates after that. Now during this nothing seems to
load or is very slowed down from loading. Isn't there a way to go to these
drivers and either troubleshoot and or upgrade them? I remember seeing
something like this but forgot how i got there. Ron

Hi Ron,

Normal you can Repair in "Config - Software" or use the Setup from
McAfee again to repair. So try that first else un/install again should
work. But also try a online virus scanner, because the trouble you have
is maybe there from a virus! Hope not! :)

First I'd like to say Thanks to you both - I used start search and entered
shieldm and a single file showed up, checked the path and found it was from a
program called Rollback RX (Horizon Data Systems) that i had deleted over a
year ago along with other files named shdbus, shield, shieldf, shieldm.sys in
: c:/windows/system32/drivers and deleted them all. Only to find the errors
stated drivers failed to load with all these newly deleted files. Emailed
Horizon Data Sys. on sunday (yesterday) and 8:30 this morning i had an email
with an attachment with a Rollback clean .exe and 3 seconds it was over. But
i still don't know why three months ago the errors started ?
Bob was right with things being left behind after an uninstall so Thank
You, and now i'm going to do an on-line virus scan and do you know of any
that clean if any anything is found? Thanks Again Ron

Hi Ron,

If you had used CCleaner, the register cleaner, after the uninstall then
the problem was never arise because the broken links where taken away then.

Tom sorry but thats not the answer, I've used CCleaner 6000 times since i've
deleted this program and Abexo Reg Cleaner and Live Safety Scanner dozens of
times. I just don't know why it started to show up 3-4 months ago. Like i
said once i found out who shieldm was Horizon sent me a cleaner, didn't mean
to bother yous.
Now i'll re-boot to see what happens, Thanks again
