sharing works only one way

Both computers Windows XP SP2. Both connected to same router, both able to
internet and configure router.
same username and password on both machines.
C1 share (all rights) 1 map, 1 printer.
C2 share (all rights) 1 map.
C1 to C2: see and work in the map without problems.
C2 to C1: cannot make contact. No permission for the requested service.
Both computers same workgroup.
Ping works both ways.
Firewall on or off: No difference.
Anybody have any ideas?

Both XP Pro? If yes, try turning off simple file sharing in Folder Options>
View. A good article for reference that includes info on creating shares
(with or without simple file sharing), can be found here:

The language is easy to understand and the article includes step by step
directions for getting shares set up and working.
 
All windows computers are servers and workstations. They have some seperate components.

Ping working means the network part is working. Therefore it is most likely configuration. Review your services and make sure the server service is running.

Also permissions are two. There is the share permission AND the file permission.

All windows have special hidden shares that only admins can use. Try connecting to C$ - you'll have to type it as the $ sign makes it hidden so it won't be in a list to select.
