Sharing Workbook Within Excel...

I know this may seem like an easy topic for you
pros....but. Id like to share a workbook within my
company. Id like to edit the entire work book on a daily
basis, but only allow them to make changes in one column.
Does anyone know how to do this? If you can please email
me the solution. Thanks so much! Doughnuts on me.

Select the column you want them to edit and select
Format>Cells...>Protection and un-check the locked box. Now go to
Tools>Protection>Protect Sheet..., enter a password and they will only be
able to work in the cells of the unlocked column.

To work on the entire file yourself. (Kick them all off), select
Tools>unprotect sheet

If you want to do this while they still have access...you can't, sorry
 
Thanks Nick for responding. It seems to me that it would
make sense that the author would have thr right to make
changes to a sheet in real time and still be able to
restrict authoring from other users. hmmmmm. You listening
Bill?

Excel is an analysis tool really and not meant for data capture and multiple
users. It is atrocious at sharing, IMHO. Access on the other hand may be
the tool to use for this as you have far more security settings which can be
customised by user sign-on.

I suspect you wish will never be granted ;-)
