SHARING VIOLATION

I keep getting the following error message using Excel 2007:

Your changes could not be saved to 'filename.xlsx' because of a sharing
violation. Try saving to a different file.

So, I save to a different file name. Then I open up that file make a change
and save it - it works. Okay, so now I'm comfortable that it will work and I
continue to make changes to the file. Then I execute save and I get the same
stinking error message.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I have been getting this error message for many months on a large spreadsheet
I have developed over many years at home. I have also seen it, albeit rarely,
with other smaller spreadsheets I have at home. I believe the error started
when I went to Office 2007 on a new Vista based Dell computer and the new
*.xlsx file format. I get the error message about 70% of the time I save the
file. I use Trend Micro PC-Cillin as my anti-virus and firewall, and I tried
to have the PC-Cillin ignore the specific file.

I wish I could give you an answer, but I have looked and looked and
looked... and have not found anything yet that works. I hoped Office SP2
fixed this, but the second time I save I got the same messages.

Many times I say "No" to saving to a different file name, and eventually I
can save to the original file name. I have put this spreadsheet in a separate
folder so I can clean out the file copies it generates. I have resisted using
"*.xls" the older file type but maybe it's time to devolve.

Sorry I have no answer, hope somebody out there does...Good luck to you!

I don't know if this will help in your situation but I tracked down
the
approximate time frame the sharing violations started and found the
only
major change to the computers was the installation of windows desktop
search
through windows update. I have removed this from the PC's having the
problems and so far the errors have stopped for the last three weeks.
I
guess the background "indexing" of the desktop search was causing
problems in
the way office saved files.

See my earlier post in this group. Since then I upgraded my Trend Micro
AntiVirus to a "normal" license that I pay for. I was using the version that
came with the Dell computer- I think that was the problem. But who knows?
Maybe one of the many MS updates lately fixed the problem. But the problems
seems to have left my computer. Good luck...
