XP will not let me me share the "program files" folder.
When I right click the folder and choose properties, then
choose sharing, the "share this folder" option is grayed
out. The "make this folder private" is also grayed out.
Does anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks!

Greetings Ken,

That's how Windows XP works with Simple File Sharing. It doesn't allow you to share the "Programs Files" and "Windows" folder. With XP Pro, you can easily turn off Simple File Sharing which will remove the restrictions. However, you can share subfolders within the Programs Files folder (eg. C:\Program Files\Games) to access that folder.

To disable Simple File Sharing in XP Pro

1. Open My Computer and click Tools | Folder Options | View
2. Scroll to the end of the advanced settings
3. Un-check "Use simple file sharing (recommended)
