I purchased a wireless broadband router to allow my
computer downstairs to connect to the internet. I also
want to access files and resources such as the printer,
etc. How do I set up each computer to do this? Operating
system is windows 2000.

W2K is already configured with file and print sharing. You basically have to add
users to each computer that you want to access shares that you create from there
computer. Be careful in that default share permissions give everyone full control. If
you do not want to give a user the ability to add files to or delete files from a
share give them no more than read permissions to the share. Share permissions apply
only to network access while ntfs file permissions apply to network and local access
and a users effective network access is the most restrictive of the two. See the
links below for more help including how to secure your wireless network where you can
read the users manual on how to use WEP and shared key in addition to other security
measures. --- Steve

I should add, and this should be in the manual, make each computer a dhcp client so
that they obtain their proper IP configuration from the router. IPconfig /all at the
command line can be used to see what IP configuration a computer is obtaining. Get
the router working for internet access to a cabled computer first [if you have one]
before you try wireless access. -- Steve
