Sharing Private Files with Account on Win7 Dual Boot?

Hi Folks:

I added Win7/64 to my PC.

The system has a drive with a Win XP partition, a new drive that
has this win7/64 partition, and a drive I've been using for my
personal files.

I can see the drive with my personal files, and see all of the
folders.

But I can't access the contents of the folders, permission
problems.

As system owner and administrator, I can change the ownership of
the folders, but doing so makes them unavailable from XP.

Is there a way to have these private directories available to my
account from either an XP or Win7 boot?

My user name is the same on both boots, if that helps.

Presumably you have different computer names under each operating
system? Try granting explicit permissions to the files/folders:

From within Windows 7, grant Modify (or other desired permissions) to
WinXP_ComputerName\Larry.

Every time I look at Windows security I get totally confused.

I'm using the following for illustration:

This site describes an object that might have DACL.

I believe for this task the folder I want to share with my account
on another partition partition is the object.

This site also describes threads with access tokens.

I believe this is the thread running whatever process I choose on
the folder. The access token would include the user name.

I was using the same computer name for both installs, "dragon".
I've renamed the computer "dragon64" when booting to Win 7.

"backup" is the name of the folder whose ownership has been changed
to Win 7's larryl. So I'll now attempt to give XP's larryl every
permission Win7's larryl has.

The single entry in the "Group or user names:" is
"larryl(DRAGON64\larryl)"

Win7's larryl has Allow checked for all permissions except "Special
permissions", which has nothing checked.

Let's add a new user to the list:

I attempt to add XP's larryl by clicking on "backup Properties"
"edit".

The "Permissions for backup" window pops up. Click on the "Group
or user names" list's "Add" button.

The "Select Users or Groups" window pops up. Buttons are displayed
in square brackets, auto wrap will probably make this hard to read.

Select this object type:
Users, Groups or Built in security principles [Object
Types...]

An object type of user or group???
The object type in the site I referenced would
be a folder or file, not a user or gruop, right?

From this location:
DRAGON64 [Locations...]

The only location is DRAGON64.
How do I add DRAGON to choice of locations?

Enter the object names to select

Enter "backups" as an object name doesn't do
any good. Why should it? This window is
a child window from "backups" properties.

And so it goes.

Where am I going wrong? I'm just not getting it.

I do appreciate your advice.
