Hy,

we have got a network with an NT 4.0 Server for DNS. We use fix IP adresses.
Within this network we now have 2 computers with XP. One of them is
connected to a Printer (HP 1200 series) by USB. Local printing works fine.
Setting it as "shared" does not cause any messages or faults.
Searching the printer form any other computer within the network fails. The
computer is listed if I search for printers on network, but no expansion to
shared printers is available.
An other HP printer (deskjet 895) connected to the other PC by (paralell)
printer port can be seen easily

1) As the services are not modified I guess they should be okay, but which
are necessary? (just to ensure)
2) Might be the USB connection the problem? Is called "DOT4_001"
3) Are there any other suggestions?

Regards

Thomas

Not a direct answer to your problem but as you have a network with a server,
why not use a print server instead of printer sharing? Then all users can
print to the printer without the "host" pc being on, or anything like that.
I have one for my home network, cost £45! SO much easier.....

I am not independant in my decisions.
Can you imagine that there are people (like my boss) who
say: "Why pay that money if a 'cheaper' solution exists?"

Please no discussion about what is realy cheaper:
my time or that server. I know as well as anyone else, it's
the server but ... YOU don't know my boss...
