We currently run NT4 on our server and are upgrading. We need the ability to
share Outlook files (mainly contacts, tasks and calendars. Can we do this
with MS Server 2003 or do we need MS EXchange Server 2003 or newer?

Thanks in advance

there's a couple of ways to do it.

certainly any flavor of exchange server will work.

also, outlook's business contact manager (bcm) provides another way

how many people do you have and how are their computer skills? there are
other ways as well if you need more ideas.

If you have enough people for to warrant an exchange server then this is the
fun way to go.

Actually, if Windows Server 2003 is running Active Directory, it is possible to make an LDAP connection to the data in AD and expose that as a read-only address list in Outlook. Also, Windows Server 2003 can run WIndows SharePoint Services, whose contacts and events lists can be viewed in Outlook 2003, again read-only.

See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm for other solutions.

We have 12 PC's on the system and skill's range from "I can set up new
accounts in NT4" to "How do I turn on my PC"?

I think Server 2003 Small Business Edition will the way to go with a Xenon
powered server.

Thanks for your feedback.
