We have an XP Pro machine that has a HP printer tied to it.
I need to share this printer across a network with a
Windows 2000 Pro machine. The "Add new printer" (on the
Win2000 machine) tells me the driver (on XP machine) is the
wrong one for Win2000. I tried loading the Win2000 driver
from original HP printer CD but it wants the printer
attached directly to the Win2000 machine. How do I get
Windows 2000 to accept the drivers from the CD yet have the
printer tied to another network machine?

The XP machine with the printer directly connected to it needs the drivers
for 2000 installed on that machine as well as the xp drivers. Right click
on the printer and on the sharing tab there is a selection for adding
additional drivers for operating systems other then XP. Now you should
be able to complete the wizard on the other machine.

Give that a try and let us know the results.
