Sharing - needs user ID and password?

I have a Small Business Server 2000 network. There is a
folder on the server which I want to share through a
shortcut on the client desktop. I want the user to double-
click the shortcut and have the folder open...

Two clients are W98 - share works perfectly.
One client is W2000 Pro - share works perfectly.
One client is XP Home (soon to be upgraded to XP Pro).
When I try to open the folder, I am asked for a user name
and password. This user has equal identity on the W2K
server to the two W98 users; the permissions on the share
include all the clients...

What setting do I need in order to simply have the folder
open when double-clicked??? Is this an XP Home weirdness?

Thanks.

Rocky,

Your best bet is to upgrade to XP Pro before trying to deal with this. Have
never used (nor will I ever use) XP Home. One of the things about xpHome is
that it CAN NOT belong to a domain and you are using SBS, on the surface, it
should still have the ability to have access to the server, but one thing to
remember is that when you create a user account on XP (Home or PRO), there
is a SID created, this SID will not match up with the SID on the SBS
server/domain. If your user does not have to login, this may be more
transparent.

This explaination can go on for much, much longer. But you will be much
better off when you upgrade to PRO.

Best of luck,
Randy

Thanks, Randy. I am thinking that XP Home is the culprit,
too. I'll hopefully have better luck after I upgrade.

More information: If I enter my name and password (as
administrator), or enter the administator id and
password, the folder opens as expected. Weird!

Thanks again...

Than it is definately as I explained, the user's SID is not the same in the
two locations and W2k SBS thinks they are two different users.

Goold luck after the upgrade, hopefully we won't see a follow-up post from
you :)

Randy
